99 Posse and Modena City Ramblers in Barcelona
by Alice Torriano
An event not to be missed, the explosive concert on November 19th that will see as protagonists, the legendary Modena City Ramblers and the overwhelming 99 Posse.
It is not the first time that these two bands meet on a unique stage, in 2015 their musical synergy has made thousands of people dance around all Europe. 99 Posse and Modena City Ramblers are long term friends and share common visions and social commitment, but these two bands have two very different styles of music.
The Modena City Ramblers (also known as M.C.R.) are the most important Italian band of its kind, known for its unique mix of folk and worldwide influences like ska and rock. They can be considered the greatest exponents of Celtic Patchanka that mix the Irish Folk and Italian Taranta. Their sound starts from Italy with his typical mandolin, pass through Celtic sounds and finally reaches African rhythms linked to the percussion of the slave workers in the two continents. Within this potent mix, the electric guitar and drums find their ideal location, with the violin, the accordion and singing.
Then, with an hip hop soul and reggae music approach, we found the 99 Posse. Together since 1991, the 99 Posse, representatives of the Italian ragamuffin rap, are also great activists like when, in 2009, they took part in a concert in support of the 21 activists arrested at the G8 of Turin.
Natives of Naples, the group sings a bit ‘in Neapolitan and a little’ in Italian, and they also have his own record company (Novenove), a refuge for many independents Italian groups.
